Product Introduction

Zirconium and its alloys have outstanding nuclear properties and excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, and are currently almost used in the atomic energy industry as nuclear reactor structure, envelope and control rod materials.

 

1. Applications in reactors

 

Zirconium metal is suitable for water-cooled reactors, and its uses are as follows:

 

(1) Make a permanent core structure and fix the fuel elements. Make pressure tubes and other accessories.

 

(2) As a coating material for fuel elements. The coating material of fuel element requires small thermal neutron absorption cross section, good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, and zirconium alloy is the most satisfactory in these aspects. In addition, thermal conductivity and fuel compatibility are good.

 

(3) Zirconium is a good additive for uranium alloy. Zirconium hydrides can be used as moderators in reactors.

 

It is an ideal control material for water cooled reactor. Because of the good corrosion resistance of the bell, the bell can be used in the bare state without covering. Outlier anti-radiation ability, long service life. At present, almost all Marine water-cooled reactors use bells to make control rods.

 

2. Application in chemical industry

 

Because of its excellent corrosion resistance to acid, alkali and other media, zirconium has been increasingly widely used in chemical equipment. For example, zirconium can be used to make corrosion resistant reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, agitators, nozzles, thermocouple bushings, conduits and vessel linings.

 

3. Other applications

 

Zirconium and hele powder can be used as a good degassing agent in the electron tube industry. The powder and compression band of Zr-16A1 alloy is an excellent non-evapotranspiration type degassing agent. Zirconium wire and sheet can be used as grid support, cathode support and grid material. Using the high melting point and high emission capacity of the bell, the bell (W-Hf alloy) can be used to make incandescent filament, cathode of X-ray tube, electrode of high voltage gas discharge tube and rectifier element.

 

In the pyrotechnic industry, zirconium and lead powder are used to make detonators and kindling. Zirconium powder and zirconium nitrate can be used to make glitter for photography.

 

As an alloying element, zirconium metal has many valuable uses in smelting industry.

 

Zirconium is a powerful deoxidizing and denitrification element in the steelmaking process. Zirconium can refine the austenite grains in steel, and sulfur can be combined to form zirconium sulfide, which can prevent the hot brittleness of steel. Zirconium can also reduce the effect of strain aging on steel and improve the low temperature toughness of steel. Zirconium is an effective grain refiner for magnesium alloys and aluminum alloys.

 

Adding a small amount of lead can improve the resistance of nickel alloy (about 80%Ni and 20%Cr). In addition, when reducing tungsten oxide, adding 0.1~3% lead can control the speed of grain growth.

 

Zirconium oxide is the raw material for acid-resistant enamels and refractories. Some of the compounds drilled can be used as dyes and as catalysts for organic reactions. In the glass industry, chromium zirconium is used as an additive for special glass.

 

Hele carbide (HfC) melting point is 3890C, and tantalum carbide (TaC) 1:4 composition (HFC-4TAC), the melting point of 3940C, is the highest melting point of ceramic material. Carbide HELE hardness is high, can be used as cutting tools and abrasive materials.
